The Firehouse Gallery offers three main services: Appraisals, Repairs, & Commissions:
Appraisals:
By Appointment, we can do a basic appraisal of artwork for $20 for the first item, and $10 for each additional work. Signed letters of appraisals are an additional $10 each.
WE CAN:
WE DO NOT:
Cleaning & Repair:
We can clean a canvas or panel work of oil or acrylic properly for you. The time it takes depends on the size of the work, but generally most work can be done in less than 2 weeks. Pricing for cleaning is about $1 per square inch. (So an image about the size of copy paper would be about $95 to clean) We will inspect the work for damage, note it on our intake form, and will often need to disassemble the frame if you have not had it removed. This can potentially damage old, improperly framed work. We ask that work comes to us UNFRAMED, but if we must do it for you, you will need to sign a release before work can begin. We DO NOT clean paintings that are flaking, or work that is highly cracked.
Some repairs can be done here, but some we may refuse should the work be beyond our capabilities. We can repair simple punctures and small rips under 2 inches with a beeswax patch. We can touch up some areas of paint loss. These repairs are in addition to any cleaning we are asked to do.
Punctures: $50 each
Rips: $100 each (Under 2 inches)
Painting in: Quoted upon inspection.
Commissions:
By Appointment we can meet with you to discuss the creation of an original work of art, portrait, still life, or decorative work.
Traditional Works:
Prices vary quite a bit from a few hundred dollars to several thousand. Half is paid when the commission is accepted, and the other half when the commission is complete, upon delivery. You may reject the work, and it becomes our property, but your original payment/deposit is forfeited. That said, every work we have created has always been happily accepted.
Pricing rule of thumb for portraits and still life artwork:
Decorative Works:
These are paintings or sculptures meant to fit your specific decorating needs, and DO NOT include specific visual references. (Like a portrait MUST look like the person being painted) They are meant to be visually loose, possibly abstract, but still meet decorative parameters of color, size, and general form. Because such work requires less precision than a portrait or still life, they are about half the price of a traditionally focused work as quoted above.

By Appointment, we can do a basic appraisal of artwork for $20 for the first item, and $10 for each additional work. Signed letters of appraisals are an additional $10 each.
WE CAN:
- We can asses if it is an original, artistic print, or mass produced copy.
- If a print, we can also assess if it is of value or decorative.
- We can asses if it is student work, the work of a novice, or a master.
- We can provide information about the media used.
- We can make a broad statement of it's value and candidly tell you how certain we are.
- We can, in some cases of "listed" artists, give you a value range. (Like Antiques Roadshow does)
- We can make this evaluation in writing for an additional fee of $10.
- We can tell you if your framing materials are okay or are destructive to the work.
WE DO NOT:
- We do not purchase work brought to the gallery.
- We do not suggest a space for you to sell it.
- We cannot put an exact dollar amount on any work. We can sometimes make an estimate.
- We cannot guarantee that all works presented can be evaluated, but we'll let you know and do not charge for work we cannot evaluate.
