Due to the sale of The Firehouse Gallery, classes are on hold. We hope another art teacher will take over, and when/if they do, this webpage will be updated. If you have an interest, or know someone who might, please let us know, or click this link: REALTOR.COM or contact our realtor, Sandra Sheets at 609-731-8794.
Schedule:
TBA
Classes are limited to just 10 students. Students MUST furnish their own supplies. We offer a weekly after-school class for children ages 7 to 13. Students bring their own supplies and classes cost $50.00 per month, 4 weeks per month. (December we meet only 2 times) Payment is needed before classes begin with the Paypal link below or in the form of a check payable to "The Firehouse Gallery of Bordentown." There are no refunds for missed classes. Students joining mid-month can pay a prorated amount of $12.50 per class. We cannot take students even 1 day younger than 7 years old.
Adult & Teen Class: Teens building portfolios for college or who just love art, and adults seeking a creative outlet and time to work are welcome for this open-studio style class. Everyone works on their own desired project and the instructor offers assistance, advice, and guidance as you go at your own pace. The teacher may offer suggestions for exploration, but students should come with ideas they wish to explore. All painting and drawing media are acceptable, as well as light sculpture. We do not have a kiln though for clay work that must be fired. Work cannot be stored in the studio between sessions.
Discount: You can register for the whole program (5 months, Nov. - Mar.) for $200 per person, and that includes 2 December classes for free.
Supply List: These are suggestions of media and sizes that work well, if something a little different is on sale, opt for that. Often these materials are available at home already. You do not have to buy high end products:
You must have a bag, tackle box, or lunch box to hold materials comfortably (NO PLASTIC BAGS)
Items: scissor, ruler, compass, regular pencil, eraser, hand-held pencil sharpener, basic colored pencils, fine and very fine Sharpie markers or other permanent pens. Small sketch pad in the neighborhood of 8 x 10 inches, medium sized drawing pad in the neighborhood of 12 x 18 inches (opt for thicker paper if possible like 80 lb. but don't break the bank), a simple watercolor set (not in tubes). Although most sets come with their own brush, we have some in the studio that may be borrowed.
My Method: My approach is to create projects for students that teach 1 or 2 skills for each lesson but also allow for personal expression. Often children may not even know I am teaching a specific technique (Shading, blending, perspective) because they are focused on having fun and expressing their inner Picasso. I work in broad themes, so there will be an overall idea for each lesson with lots of room for self expression.
Mail payments to "Firehouse Gallery," 8 Walnut St., Bordentown, NJ 08505-1725. Print the form below and enclose payment for classes. We will reply via email when registration is complete.
